Facts behind DSSSL

Document Style Semantics and Specification Language (DSSSL) is meant to work with SGML, the Standard Generalized Markup Language. DSSSL is an international standard for associating processing with SGML documents. SGML itself is intended to allow the complete separation of the content of a document from the processing to be associated with it. In ofther words text, links, structure are completely separated form formatting. SGML documents should only describe the structure. DSSSL can be described as processing of documents in a standard way.

Main DSSSL Processos

  1. Jade – the first DSSSL processor released. Free software
  2. Emacs – word processor, text editor, web browser, news reader and mail program – in future DSSSL processor. Free software
  3. Seng – Copernican Solutions is developing a DSSSL implementation for the Java Virtual Machine named Seng.
