If you want to get an appealing presentation on your business or financial website it used to be the a common practice that different types HTML hacks would have to be adopted in web design to make your pages look more attractive. The most widely used ‘hack’ (which is still frequently used today) is the use of tables to layout page structure. Luckily these times are drawing to an end, because web browsers have evolved and XHTML and CSS are now widely supported web standards. Now you are able to create real estate of finances related sites which not only look wonderful but are also prepared in compliance with the correct web standards.

This is all well and good, but the real question is should your business or loans website switch to a web standards based design? What possible business benefits of setting up a standards compliant design are?

The most significant problem with getting a web standards based design is that it might be difficult to find a web designer who will be able to prepare a both attractive and webs standards compliant business website. Many skilled web designers will not be eager to create you a financial website which is web standards compliant because of the amount of time involved in such work and the usual lack of appreciation from the client for doing so.

The slow, but inevitable conversion to standards compliant web designs is partially caused by the simplicity in which a non-standards based business site can be created. With the increasing popularity of ‘what you see is what you get’ (WYSIWYG) site creation tools like Dreamweaver it is now quite easy for a skilled graphic artists to make a professional looking website with very little code knowledge required in the process. While your mortgage or real estate website would look great, its construction can leave a lot to be desired. Insufficient page coding, although not always visible directly on the page, can cost your business a lot of money as well as make your site inaccessible to a wide audience, cause problems with navigation and difficulties with maintenance.

SGML itself is intended to allow the complete separation of the content of a document from the processing to be associated with it. In ofther words text, links, structure are completely separated form formatting. SGML documents should only describe the structure. DSSSL can be described as processing of documents in a standard way.

Main DSSSL Processos

  1. Jade – the first DSSSL processor released. Free software
  2. Emacs – word processor, text editor, web browser, news reader and mail program – in future DSSSL processor. Free software
  3. Seng – Copernican Solutions is developing a DSSSL implementation for the Java Virtual Machine named Seng.

Pity to hear the recent news about Netscape. For the uninformed, this great web icon simply ceased to be and now it is an ex-browser. Unbelivable! Some guys believe that Netscape was just a rebranded Mozilla browser. The others are much more sentimental towards it when they picture themselves surfing the net couple of years back then. Just like in its hey-day when is was the dominant browser. After all over 90% of internet community were using it to surf the web. I even can’t forget showing people how to create their own web pages using tool called Netscape Composer. For free! The good news is that you can still be able to use it, although it wil not be supported, thus will be doomed to fall info oblivion in time. How can you feel about this fact if you happened to be a heavy user of this browser? For some it will be missed sorely, the others will not admit it in the face but will be grieving for it. What is your personal stance against this matter?
